BEHAVIOR :

Juwl previously lived with adults and a child from since he was an infant. The owner stated Juwl is very relaxed and respectful towards children and gentle wit adults also. The owner mentioned Juwl lived with other dogs and got along great with them. The owner describes Juwl as shy, affectionate, friendly and loving. According to the owner Juwl is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone.

At intake it was reported Juwl was relaxed and well behaved, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Juwl came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Juwl was fearful with his body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Juwl was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Juwl has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Juwl is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Juwl be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter.

Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.

Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.

Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.

Toy 1: No interest.

Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Juwl is nervous as she greets the other dog. She wanders in the pen displaying soft body language.

According to Juwl’s previous owner, Juwl has lived with other dogs and got along great with them. Juwl also gets along with dogs in the dog park but plays someone rough with them since she is so big.

6/22: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Juwl is nervous as she greets the other dog. She wanders in the pen displaying soft body language.
