05/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I have never, ever seen a dog pee for so long once outside. Whew! I would say this sweet fellow is housetrained! He’s a cutie in his shiny black coat, one ear up the other down, although he’s been known to change their position! Toronto walks well on leash, poses for photos like a rockstar, takes treats gently and wags his tail at everyone. Off leash, he play bows to every dog passing by, and in his first group play session, met the greeter dog politely. Toronto is active and fun, loved playing with a ball and a toy jumping up for a quick hug and then back to playing. When our time together was over, he hopped right back into his kennel and settled down. Toronto is looking for an active, fun family and cordially invites you to stop by and meet him today.
05/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Toronto walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Toronto was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toys away with a soft body language. Toronto did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Toronto is cautious, however does allow greeting from the female helper.
05/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Toronto offers bows and barks to solicit play from other dogs. He has once been introduced to a male dog, and displayed a tense body during this interaction. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Toronto before placement with other dogs, and would advise against placement with male dogs until his behavior around them can be followed up on. He arrived as a stray so in home behavior is unknown around dogs. 5/29: Toronto is cautious, however does allow greeting from the female helper. 5/31 update: Toronto sniffs around, but eventually bows and barks to solicit. 6/1 update: Toronto offers bows and barks to solicit. 6/2 update: Toronto offers bows and bakrs to solicit play. He is tense-bodied when greeting a male dog, and is not given time to interact further. 6/4 update: Toronto solicits rough play by barking and bowing/bouncing at the other dogs. He does not have body awarenss and will continue to bump into the other dogs.
