05/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Timbo previously lived with 4 adults and a 10 year old child. The owner stated Timbo is relaxed and affectionate around the child. The owner mentioned Timbo has a high activity level and will chase cats in the street but when he gets close he will try to play with them. It was reported by the owner Timbo is friendly and gets easily aroused and becomes mouthy. At intake it was reported Timbo was tense, he allowed all handling with assistance from the owner. During SAFER Timbo came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Timbo follows but is a bit distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Timbo was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Timbo appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification and we recommend no other male dogs in the household. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: The previous owner reported that Timbo will bark and lunge when he sees another male dog and is not bothered by female dogs. When off leash with a female dog at the Care Center, Timbo greets nervously and is initially sexually motivated; sniffing the other dog’s genital area but made no attempt to mount. He listens to handler interruptions and wandered the pen for the remainder of the session.
