07/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Big head, big brain, big heart…that’s Tank! He comes to us a stray, so we can’t tell you how he got to be so handsome, debonair, and great…only that he is! For the most part he has very good leash manners, only pulling some to get outside (he’s gotta go! Tank seems housetrained) or if there’s something he needs to get a better whiff of. He is super treat motivated and already knows “sit,” “paw,” and “down.” He loves to play with toys, knows all about fetch (I worry that he’ll end up like Pooh in the honey put when he crawls under the bench to get the ball!) and hasn’t shown guarding issues. He likes to be pet, wags his tail when we encounter new admirers, and seems to enjoy just sitting at my feet — he is really great company! Whenever I put him back he whines some and props his paws on his cage door…I suspect it’s his way of pointing out that he belongs in a home! Please come see him at Brooklyn ACC and see if it might be yours.
07/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tank came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Tank was friendly and social, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Tank came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Tank was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Tank was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Tank appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tank is initially sexually motivated and persistently licks the other dog’s genital area. He does not attempt to mount.
