A volunteer writes:

Rocky and housemate Khloe were brought together to the care center and left  with us without a  word….A handsome Boxer and a  plump Rottweiler. Khloe is jovial and sociable. Rocky is lost and stern. They are middle aged,  well nourished but their care seems to have been suboptimal to say the least. They could have been yard dogs invited at times inside the house.  Rocky is out of place, very much trying to find his bearings. On the walk, he looks here and there, trying to spot something or someone familiar. He pulls slightly and does not mark his territory. He is an intact male and was quite pushy in playgroup with a nice female. His eyes rarely meet mine which makes a nice face picture almost impossible.Rocky is beautiful. A smile would so make him look like a king….He owns lots of calluses, old sores and his face is covered with zillions of tiny healed   scars. Where has he been hanging around? Rocky does not sit on command at this point  but seems to enjoy caresses and gentle words. He even comes on my lap, briefly, looking pretty adrift…I guess he needs more time, more walks and one to one encounters with staff and volunteers. The real Rocky will then hopefully come to the surface. I hope to “revisit” Rocky very soon and report on his progresses. Meanwhile, come and meet him in our adoption quarters. An experienced , warm and loving home could bring balance and happiness into his life. Rocky is at the Manhattan Care Center.

For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following: http://urgentpodr.org/adoption-info-and-list-of-rescues.

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
