A volunteer writes:
Stella spells beauty.. Who can resist those intense luminous eyes who find their way to one’s soul and heart? Stella is so feminine. She wears a faintly spotted dress, her body is statuesque , her face majestic and crowned by perfectly cropped ears. Stella is not fond of her kennel and is eager to be leashed. I thought that she would pull me like a kite as she looks like quite a powerful dog. I was so wrong…She is so great on the walk, does her business at once and meets properly other dogs (she is also very playful in playgroups with her peers). She does a lot of tail wagging, absolutely loves treats and occasionally will sit for them after a lot of begging on my part. Stella clearly enjoys to be in company. She loves to be caressed, poses her head in my lap, licks my hand and finally hops on the bench for closeness. She does not mind being peered at by my camera and is very patient and low key, easy to handle and a real pleasure to be with. Stella did not show any concern during her behavioral evaluation and her interaction with her peers. She is a “stellar” gal who will be the pride of her new owner or family. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
Another volunteer writes: Soft, sexy, sultry bedroom eyes and a snuggle girl……what more could anyone ask for? And even if you don’t ask, she has plenty more to offer. Great leash manners, likely housetrained, a lap dog wannabe, she gives paw, loves to give kisses, gives the best hugs, plays nicely with a male in group, and although she had been left behind when her person moved, bears no ill will towards us humans. On the contrary, she’s a lover girl who wants nothing more than to find a new human to love to the moon and back. She’s going to be so easy to love, trust me. Come meet her today.
BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Spayed,stray
Other notes: Stella was friendly and allowed all handling during intake.
SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/4/2017
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes and body soft, open mouth, slight lip lick.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, not playful, approaches at end of game.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, sniffs hand.
Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then walks away.
Summary: Stella displayed no concern during her behavioral assessment.
PLAYGROUP:
1/3: Stella is a bit tense when greeted. She offers minor correction for play solicitation. When the greeter dog playfully runs away, she becomes interested in engaging and begins to follow behind him.
1/4: Stella engages in pushy, running chase play with a playful male dog.
1/6: Stella engages in running play, often soliciting chase. When with a less playful dog she is initally polite but then after a period of not interacting, she walks over and puts her paws on his shoulder. He growls and she escalates in response; only stopping when handlers intervene.
1/14: Stella engages in running play with a playful male. She will physically correct mounting by removing her body from under the dog.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 01/03/2017
Stella allowed all handling during her initial medical exam.
ENERGY LEVEL:
RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
