12/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/10/16 09:23 Upon intake Jean Grey was tense, she had her tail tucked and kept her eyes averted when cousnelor approached. Cousnelor was able to place the leash over her neck and scan her (negative). She had a firm body and slowly turned her head when collared, she showed no signs of aggression. She allowed all handling during the intake.
12/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: While the secret to our collective hearts is that lone Grouch Marx eyebrow Jean Grey sports, I think the secret to hers is a little time and lots of treats. She can be a little shy with new people, but she is truly a doll!! She doesn’t pull much on leash (mostly only when she spots something exciting), seems housebroken, and will do tricks to earn those treats she loves so much (she knows “sit” and “down”). After several outings together, she has warmed up to be very wiggly and affectionate with me; she props her paws up to ask for petting, shoots me lots of sweet eye contact to thank me, and thanks me again later with some kisses on my nose! She’s very attentive and although she’s named after a superhero, I think she wants nothing more than to be someone’s sidekick. Please come meet this sweet, sweet girl at Brooklyn ACC and see if that might be you!

KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/13/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick Tag: 1. Follows at the end of leash, a bit fearful Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently pulls back Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back Toy: 1. No interest Summary: Jean Grey appeared fearful throughout her assessment and at times becoming uncomfortable with up close handling. She may benefit best from a slow/soft approach as well as the opportunity to interact at her own pace. PLAYGROUP: Jean Grey came into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Jean Grey lowers her body and lip curls at the initial greeting with a novel male dog. As the session moves on she displays conflicting body language with high stiff bounces and vocalizations. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/10/16 During her initial medical examination, Jean Grey tolerated all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful (The behavior department recommends allowing Jean Grey to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Jean Grey appears to easily startle upon loud noises/sudden movements, for this reason we advise against a home without young children at this time. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Jean Grey to new and unfamiliar situations.)
