03/20/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/20/15 08:54 Basic Info: Hera is a 1 year old spayed dog who has no known prior injuries or medical problems. Social Life and Personality: According to owner she is relaxed and playful with children but when she plays and gets excited she will play bite (has not drawn blood or broken skin). She has not been around any other dogs or cats so her behaviors are unknown. She is house trained and kept mostly indoors. Behaviors: She has not bitten anyone or any animal before aside from play biting which has not broken skin or drawn blood. When unfamiliar people approach the house or family member she is friendly, approaching with soft, wiggly body and will have high pitched bark while jumping up on them to sniff and lick them. Intake Behavior: During intake approached extended hand, sniffed, and licked it. Allowed to be scanned (positive), collared, and leashed without aggression. When given treat would take gently from hand but was not interested in eating. When touched had soft body and would jump up onto admission counselor for more attention once petting was stopped.
03/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Talk about smoldering eyes and a natural beauty — Hera is stunning! In Greek mythology Hera is the wife of Zeus and the Goddess of women, and she is certainly deserving of this lofty name. Hera’s coat is sleek and well groomed, her eyes soulful, loving and intelligent and match the tan in her coat. She’s low key and gentle, making soft eye contact as she perfectly poses for pictures, quietly explores our pen, and softly greets a dog in an adjoining one. As I sat to take some notes, Hera jumped up on the bench to join me, leaning in for snuggles, closing her eyes as she gave herself up to the petting. When I stopped petting her she nuzzled my hand for more! Likely housetrained and with nice leash manners (she pulls slightly from time to time), Hera has clearly been a well taken care of little girl before joining us. Looking for her happily ever after, she’s hoping you’ll ask to meet her today. Another volunteer writes: Hera is shy and sweet. She is well behaved and enjoys being pet and shown affection. She has beautiful eyes and coloring. She would make most any family happy and fit in well, but would do better in a home without young children. She is such a good girl and just wants a family to love her!
03/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hera was reported to become mouthy when excited in a home environment. She is highly social and affectionate, but may become mouthy or “play bite” when in an emotionally heightened state (mostly seen during play). There appears to be no aggression behind this behavior, but Hera will likely do best with an experienced adopter willing to provide training and guidance on how to properly direct her energy while playing. Hera is a young, energetic dog who will need daily exercise and mental and physical stimulation. She may be overwhelming for very young (toddler-age) children, but older children can be considered pending interaction. 3/11/15 SAFER: Hera pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Hera had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Hera took the toy and rawhide away but had soft body language. Hera approached other dog with friendly/playful body language. Hera did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 1.
