A volunteer writes:   “I’m gonna hug you and kiss you and love you forever”, says Elmyra Duff, a Tiny Toons character.  And we say back to her, “I’m gonna hug you and kiss you and love you forever too”. And oh, she is so easy to love.   Sultry and gorgeous with a coat as soft as silk, eyes that make soft loving contact, and a smile as big as the sun, Elmyra is a gem.   Staff made a point of telling me she’s a ‘must meet’, and we’re head over heels in love.  Quiet and easy, she loves snuggling in close for petting, closing her eyes with the bliss of it all, bounces after a tossed ball but doesn’t retrieve, hated the scarf I put on her (OK, so she’s not completely perfect), seems to be housetrained, posed for photos like a pro, and jumped up on a chair with a big smile.   And, when I sat down in the chair she promptly jumped up in my lap and hunkered down close giving me kisses!  Clearly a lap dog who loves being with her person, Elmyra Duff seems used to a home and having friends and love.   If you’re looking for the best snuggle buddy ever, a respectful and sweet little girl, you’ve found her!!

Elmyra Duff cordially invites you to come meet her today and make her yours!!

BEHAVIOR:

KNOWN HISTORY:

4/17/27

SAFER ASSESSMENT:

4/18/17

Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.

Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.

Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.

Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.

Summary: Elmyra Duff displayed no concerning behaviors on her assessment and was social throughout.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:

Summary

PLAYGROUP:

4/18: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs, Elmyra Duff engages in soft play with polite dogs.  She offers correction for mounting, or more exuberant play.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/17/17

During her initial medical exam, Elmyra Duff was social.

ENERGY LEVEL:

We have no history on Elmyra Duff so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment.  However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following: http://urgentpodr.org/adoption-info-and-list-of-rescues.

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email [email protected] Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
