05/02/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: With enough playful and loving energy to power your cell phone for the day, allow me to introduce Dash. I could tell you that Dash is composed of a dash of love, a dash of playful, a dash of fun and a dash of cuddles, and it would all be true. He’s a fun, energetic, playful, and handsome little guy, with a personality that goes from here to there. He’s adorably friendly greeting me with a big stand up hug and a smile, he may be housetrained, going potty as soon as we were out the door, and off leash in the backyard he ‘dashes’ from one end of the pen to another with a great case of the zoomies! After some energy is expended he settles in my lap, paws around my neck giving the best hug ever. Dash needs a little leash training as he zig zags down the street in his happiness at discovering all the new sights and sounds our area has to deliver, and wagging his tail happily at every person we passed. He’s a little dynamo who loves to love and is ready to rock your world with his awesomeness. He’s still all puppy at one year old, so will need some structure, positive reinforcement training (he loves treats) and lots of love. Are you ready to add this tiny little guy with a big personality into your life? He’s waiting!
04/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/17/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Bite history: Yes, Dash bit the police officer who found him when he was trying to lure him into a carrier. The bite was to the finger and left two punctures. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/26/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Dog is tense. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Dash at first appeared fearful of the assessor, body tense and avoiding. He did warm up a bit and become social. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Social: These dogs truly enjoy the company of other dogs. They generally get along with all other dogs and can tolerate even very rude or inappropriate behavior. PLAYGROUP: Dash is social and playful when engaging with other dogs in the care center. The behavior department feels Dash may be most compatible with other social or tolerant dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/17/17 During his initial medical exam, Dash appeared anxious and did not allow handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Dash so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): Due to how fearful Dash is when he first meets new people, and his bite history, we recommend an adult only home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Dash gives clear warnings when he is uncomfortable and does seem to choose to avoid or retreat when given the opportunity, but if prevented from moving away has shown he will escalate to fear-based aggression, biting the police officer that was attempting to put him in a crate. It is important to move slowly with Dash, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow Dash to initiate interactions with new people. He should never be forced to greet or to interact if he is not comfortable and soliciting attention.
05/05/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Dash is social and playful when engaging with other dogs in the care center. The behavior department feels Dash may be most compatible with other social or tolerant dogs. 5/5: When off leash with other dogs, Dash engages in bouncy, puppy play. He takes correction from the other dog when his play style is too exuberant. He will then solicit gently by offering playbows. 5/6: Dash is utilized as a Greeter dog today. He engages in soft, puppy play and will solicit with playbows and body bumps.

Aww Dash is such a happy, playful puppy! He’s a little scared at times, especially when he first arrived at the shelter – but think of all the new sounds, sights, smells…a lot to take in for a one-year-old. His videos show a much-loved pup who can’t get enough playtime. And everyone enjoys Dash hugs and kisses! Dash does so well with other dogs that he was even used as a greeter dog. With a little training, Dash will be the greatest companion!

Why is Dash at the end of the SAFEs with no date yet? It said he was pulled further up in the comments… People may miss seeing him in the SAFE page since there are now 2 pages and pledges may not be honoured….
D. Rose says
Pledge honored. Thank you RDR and foster/adopter for rescuing him. Did not realize he was safe until I saw a posting on FB from RDR. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Don’t want RDR missing out on pledges.
