GONE 05/11/17

Please Share:

Brooklyn Center

My name is DARLA. My Animal ID # is A1110583.
I am a spayed female brown and white staffordshire mix. The shelter thinks I am about 4 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 04/30/2017 from NY 11436, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

05/10/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Darla A1110583 is at risk due to CIRDC diagnosis

MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
05/09/2017 Exam Type BS NEW URI – Medical Rating is 3 C – MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is EXPERIENCE, Weight 52.6 LBS.

05/09/17 Coughing noted on rounds. S/O: BARH. Active, barking. EENT: Mod. mucoid nasal discharge, crusting. H/L: Mild dry, hacking cough. A: CIRDC. P: Move to iso. Rx Doxycycline 100 mg. 2.5 Po q 24 hours x 14 days. Excellent prognosis.

04/30/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/30/17 14:58 Darla was found on the streets tied up to a fence on 119 ave and 147 st Jamaica 11436. Darla let the officers approach her and she was in their cruiser. SHe loved to look out the windows. The officers were made aware of the 3 possible outcomes: adoption, rescue , or PTS. Darla was very excited during intake. She jumped up to greet the counselors and handlers. She allowed to be collared, leash, and scanned. She did not like having her picture taken; her body became a bit tense during that time.

05/06/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What do you get when you take a bunch of sweetness and charm and encase it like a sausage?? None other than darling Darla! She was found tied to a fence and brought to us via NYPD (she loved riding in their cruiser and looking out the windows…the world is your oyster, little dumpling!). She is super friendly and becomes a favorite to anyone that meets her! She is very easy to walk on leash, loves to explore, and seems to have some housetraining. Her likes include treats, chasing pigeons, smooshing herself into me when I call her over for pets, and giving lots of snorty kisses. She is a doll…please come to Brooklyn ACC and eat her up!

05/02/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/30/17 Unaltered Female, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Darla was excited and friendly, she allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/2/17 Look:1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. 1. No interest. Summary: Darla was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with other dogs at the Care Center, Darla becomes stiff and growls when greeting novel dogs. When greeting them, she becomes increasingly stiff and lunges. Darla came into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. Due to Darla’s display of low sociability towards other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that she be the only dog in the home at this time. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/30/17: During her medical examination, Darla was friendly and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Darla so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _x_Single-dog home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to Darla’s display of low sociability towards other dogs –growling and lunging- the Behavior Department recommends that she be the only resident dog. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help decrease Darla’s reactiviy towards other dogs.

05/01/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs at the Care Center, Darla becomes stiff and growls when greeting novel dogs. When greeting them, she becomes increasingly stiff and lunges. Darla came into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. Due to Darla’s display of low sociability towards other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that she be the only dog in the home at this time. 5/1: Darla becomes stiff and low growls upon greeting a novel male dog through the gate. She is muzzled for a face to face greeting. She greets him briefly but remains fixated on her muzzle for the majority of their interaction. 5/2: When greeting a novel female dog, Darla hard stares and begins to muzzle punch the gate while growling. A muzzle is placed on her as a precaution. Once in the pen, she sniffs the other dog and becomes increasingly stiff body language. She begins to lunge and the other dog and the session is ended.

Praying and sharing for this absolute sweet pea! Wishing those officers would come back for her! My partner adopted a dog we found and had to turn over to the shelter when she went unclaimed for a week. Named her after the street we found her on! Please give darling Darla more time! 🐾💜🙏🏻

Aww such a cutie! Those videos – just kisses, tail wags and hugs from Darla! She did great on her SAFER, has wonderful volunteer notes and loved her ride in the police cruiser…what more could anyone want in a best friend?! Darla will be an amazing companion.

I so agree. This is way out of control. Innocent dogs are suffering. It is a slaughter house not a safe shelter.

Darla, you were so sweet with such an inquisitive face and adorable ears. Whoever tied you to that fence and walked away should be ashamed of themselves for now you are dead. You had kennel cough but that is treatable and not a reason to die! So sorry sweetness. :'(
