11/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Frisco seems like a shy guy in his kennel. I show him the leash. He looks at me like asking: ” Are you talking to me ? Do you want me, really me?” Yes, I see nobody else sharing your den…. “OK, then. I am coming with you…”. FrIsco is leashed in no time. Wow…Frisco..You are in need of TLC, big time… You are so thin and your coat has seen better days, if ever.. Frisco, indeed has Demodex and our veterinary team medicated him from day one with a projected good outcome. Soon, it will be history, providing he gets the same care once adopted or fostered. Frisco is a good walker (no pulling or leash biting). He does his business as we stroll around the block , marking a little his territory and ignoring the pigeons. Quite a fair number of dogs are met(big and small) , some quite up close and Frisco, just wags gently his tail. He poses for the pictures and sits on command and for treats that he takes usually gently but occasionally grabs . He appreciates caresses very much. He does not mind me cleaning his eyes or scraping a few scabs from his face. Frisco is an easy going gent who understood that being nice and well mannered will get him farther then being difficult and wild……Of course, I have to see a little bit more of Frisco and look forward to meet him again. Keep him in your mind, may be come and meet him.. He could be your next forever best friend.
11/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/6/2016 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans into the Assessor’s hand, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, grabs leash, settles and redirects easily Flank squeeze (paw skipped due to medical) 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: 5. Dog attempts to bite Summary: Due to severity of the behavior displayed when engaged with the toy item, Frisco must be placed with a New Hope rescue partner who can further assess this behavior before permanent placement into an adoptive home. PLAYGROUP: Frisco explores the yard with male and female dogs (large and small) occasionally sniffing them all. He briefly attempts to mount the neutered male then stops with correction. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/3/2016 During his initial medical examination, Frisco tolerated all handling without issue.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See known history) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Frisco displayed some concern during the resource portion of the assessment where he guarded a toy. His body was stiff when approached; he then vocalized and snapped, grabbed and bit the assess-a-hand. Recovery was not easily achieved as Frisco remained focused on the hand several minutes after. Due to the severity of this behavior, the department believes Frisco would benefit best from a New Hope placement partner who can provide an experienced foster home where he is allowed decompression before any introduction to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised.) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Resource guarding
11/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Based on observation made in our care, the behavior department recommends slow introductions to any dogs in a future resident home. Frisco may be most comfortable in the presence of calmer dogs. 11/3: When introduced off leash with male and female dogs in the care center, Frisco approaches and greets politely. He tenses and offers correction when a playful dog jumps on him. 11/4: Frisco explores the yard with male and female dogs (large and small) occasionally sniffing them all. He briefly attempts to mount the neutered male then stops with correction.
