Bolo
Hello, my name is Bolo. My animal id is #16580. I am a male brown brindle dog at theΒ Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 20-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.
Bolo is at risk for behavioral reasons. Bolo is fearful, and displays potential for defensive aggression. At the care center, Bolo barks, growls, and lunges at people, and is difficult to handle. For these reasons, Bolo is only to be placed with a New Hope partner. Medically, we have no concerns for Bolo, who presents as a healthy dog.
My medical notes are…

Upon intake Bolo was very anxious and barking at staff members and other dogs. Once approached Bolo sought attention and allowed being collared. Bolo then resumed to bark and attempt to interact with the dog alongside him. Bolo was given treats and was then placed in a kennel. No further handling was performed.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Bolo is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Bolo has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Bolo is described as shy with new people, and the owner reported he barks at them. At the care center, he has barked, growled, and lunged at people and is unable to be safely handled. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Bolo to new and unfamiliar situations. House soiling: Bolo is noted to have accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Bolo is reported to be reactive towards male dogs and he has lunged at dogs in the care center, barking and growling. Bolo may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.

Bolo’s owners should be kicked in their respective arses with oversized, steel-toed Doc Martins from here to kingdom come. Not training and socializing him, then Bringing that boy in muzzled, only a year old, immediately prejudicing the staff who probably reacted as though he was a monster instead of treating him as what he is…a sweet, frightened puppy.
BOLO are acronyms for police jargon meaning Be On Look Out. And with our Bolo, you should be on the look out for an appealing gold brindle boy, who is as captivating and delectable as any handsome year old can be.
Bolo is also acronym for
Bread Of Life Outreach
Food for thought.

Come on ACC..Bolo is still a puppy..Isn’t it your job to be experienced in handling all dogs, big and small that come to ACC..Bolo’s owner dumped him at a very strange loud scary place when owner became homeless…He wasn’t given up because of his behavior..Owner says Bolo needs time to warm up to strangers, and ACC is not given him that time..Owner describes Bolo as…Friendly affectionate playful, confident, pushy with high activity level..He enjoys baths, being brushed, playing with toys..Doesn’t mind being restrained, pushed off the couch or having his nails trimmed..No bite or resource guarding issues..He follows his owner around the home..He has soiled in the home when a alone he gets anxious..At the Care center he lunges and barks at staff, and other dogs..This is very sad..Owner had Bolo since he was 2 months old..Owner had no business owning a puppy, when he didn’t want to put an effort into Bolo’s training, and socialization..Remember Bolo is only a baby, and can be trained..I am very afraid for this boy, and I pray someone looks passed his issues, and invests the time to retrain this puppy..Bolo does not deserve death..He hasn’t even lived..Please adopt Bolo and give him a chance to show you what a good dog he can become..If you cannot commit long term, or would like to see if you are a match with Bolo, before commiting, foster him at no cost to you..Contact Help Desk on New Hope Rescues who offer free fostering..Share him far and wide..If Bolo isn’t adoped or fostered today..ACC will kill him..Pledging gets hm noticed by the rescue, and pays for his care..Time grows short, and Bolo needs a home, or ACC will take his life..Dont let them kill this baby today.

A youngster should NEVER be on this list. Pledge $25
another puppy gone. I am heartbroken . Just posted by NYCACC.
Yes, only 1 year old and deemed beyond hope… not given a chance.
All
Thanks to his irresponsible owners who never trainex, never cgerished, and just dumped him.
Maybe I’m a conspiracy theorist, but I feel that someone there does not like brindles. I think brindles have a hard enough time on their own, and I really don’t understand why because to me their coloring is gorgeous. People talk about the black dog curse, but I think brindles are next in line.
RIP Bolo. You were robbed of a life by this place.
So sorry Bolo…π
Poor baby had a POS owner that didn’t do any training with Bolo, then left a shy unsocialized puppy helpless in a scary place full of strangers…The owners should be here fighting for their lives not this poor dog who is the product of these lazy ass bastard owner..like many lazy ass owners, who thinks a puppy can train themselves..It’s like leaving a baby alone, and letting them grow up without socialization, and manners, and just having you to depend on to feed them..Then abandoning them..What would be the end result? Yet people would have sympathy for a child, and the parent would be behind bars…. Not so for these poor pups..Poor Bolo..RIP..You mattered to us.
The loss of puppy Bolo is absolutely disgusting and shameful!! π‘ Bolo was just a baby learning how to navigate in this world. He needed training, guidance and love not death scared and alone. NYCACC is just horrible…. Run free beautiful puppy Bolo, forever a puppy and forever in our hearts. We loved you very much and your short life mattered. π’π
