12/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: During intake, Aston was tense, growled and snapped. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/6/2016 Look: 5. Dog growls Toy: 1. No interest Summary: Aston was initially difficult to remove from kennel, growling and ducking leash. He eventually accepted the leash by going slow, speaking gently and softly. Aston allowed touch in the SAFER assessment room, allowed collaring by going very slowly and allowed petting of his head; however he remains highly uncomfortable and displayed appropriate warning signals when further attempts to engage and interact were made. Aston may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/4/2016 Aston growled and snapped during his initial medical exam, unable to safely handle. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Aston would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Aston has been observed to snap when frightened/stressed. It is recommended that Aston be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Aston to new and unfamiliar situations.)
